SecureDrop is an open-source whistleblower platform built on anonymity and strong encryption to protect data and the identity of sources. Lucy Parsons Labs has built an instance of SecureDrop that we are naming “Black Rose” and are proud to announce that it is now live. SecureDrop relies on several excellent technical projects and is completely segmented from other infrastructure that LPL uses. Since our servers are running as a Tor Hidden Service, submissions will not be tied to any personal information including IP addresses, names, or physical locations.

As a transparency organization, we believe that supporting leaks and whistleblowers is absolutely crucial. LPL believes that leaks are the best mechanism for opening up governments, corporations and other institutions of power. Beyond running these platforms, it is important to decentralize access and control of information and we hope that Black Rose will contribute to that cause. We recognize that institutions like the Mayor’s Office and the Chicago Police Department have a long history of criminal acts hidden from the public. We want to open up these institutions and others for public scrutiny and need help from those with access to information to do so. The data that is leaked we can immediately publish or we can work with our affiliated journalists to report on the data provided by a source. We will totally respect the wishes of sources in this matter.

If you are attempting to contact us using Black Rose, please read our privacy policy. Never contact us over insecure channels (unencrypted emails, Twitter, etc) and maintain proper security hygiene. This requires, at minimum, contacting us over a new computer using TAILS and from locations that are not associated with your physical location.

Here is how you can visit our instance and submit to us.

  • First you will need to download and install the Tor Browser Bundle from Tor Project
  • Open the Tor Browser and paste this link into your browser http://qn4qfeeslglmwxgb.onion/
  • Follow the instructions for uploading documents. If you have multiple submissions or a large submission, you may need to break it up into several uploads.
  • Please do not lose your codename which will be assigned to you when you submit documents. We will use that codename to message you if we need to.
